On-call firefighters extinguish house fire

A team of on-call firefighters from Dunmow, Braintree, Halstead and Stansted were called to a house fire in a three-storey house in Almond Road, Dunmow yesterday at 3:35pm.

On arrival, crews reported that the house was heavily smoke logged with a fire in a first floor bedroom.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the fire by 5pm and believe it was caused by an electrical fault.

Station Manager Jon Ford from Dunmow Fire Station said: “This incident highlights our dedicated on-call firefighters and their value in our Service. All four crews came from on-call fire stations. The firefighters involved all have their own day jobs and lives outside of the fire service and give lots of their time to help keep their communities safe.

“Our on-call firefighters all live or work within 5 minutes of an on-call fire station and are ready with their pagers to respond to incidents when needed.
