Bungalow fire
UPDATE 4:15PM
The cause of the fire has been recorded as accidental.
Police have issued the following statement:
A woman has died following a fire at a bungalow in Kingsland Road, WestMersea.
We were contacted by the fire service shortly before 11am today (Wednesday 30 June).
Sadly a woman aged in her 70s died at the scene.
At this stage, her death is being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
Our officers are working with fire investigators.

Crews were called to a fire at a bungalow in Kingsland Road, West Mersea today (Wednesday 30 June) at 10.46am.
Firefighters from West Mersea, Colchester and Tiptree attended and found a well-established fire. Crews worked hard to extinguish it by 11:27am.
A fire investigation will take place to establish the cause.
A stretch of Kingsland Road has been closed temporarily, between Barfield Road and Yorick Road, so emergency services can work safely.
Please avoid the area if possible and take extra care at school pick-up time. Mersea Island School has let parents know about alternative arrangements at collection time.
