Air fryer fire
Firefighters were called to a kitchen fire in Manor Road, Dovercourt at 11am.
On arrival, crews reported a kitchen was heavily smoke logged.
Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus entered the kitchen and found an air fryer on fire.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and believe it was caused by an electrical fault.
Crew Manager Norman Gooch from Dovercourt Fire Station said: “We’d like to praise the resident for her quick thinking when she saw the air fryer sparking and catch alight. She noticed it straight away as she was in the kitchen when using the air fryer. She quickly got herself and her young family out of the house and called us. In the event of a fire, that’s the safest thing to do, never attempt to tackle a fire yourself. Get yourself and your family out of the house and call the fire service as soon as you are out of the house safely.”
Online Home Safety Check
Firefighters are encouraging everyone to complete the Online Home Safety Check to evaluate your own fire risk at home. The check will provide you with tailored advice and handy tips throughout to help reduce the risk of a fire in your home.
You can carry out a check for yourself, or any family members. Friends, neighbours, registered carers, support workers and partner agencies can all use this tool. In some cases, it may suggest that we attend your property to give in-person advice and fit smoke alarms if required.
Could you be an on-call firefighter?
Some of the firefighters from Clacton, Dovercourt and Manningtree are on-call firefighters; people who live or work within 5 minutes of an on-call fire station and are paid to protect their community.
If you live or work within 5 minutes of an on-call fire station, you could be an on-call firefighter too.
