Crews extinguish fire at car recovery yard

We were called to reports of a fire in Stubbins Hall Lane, Waltham Abbey today at 6.28pm.

Crews from Waltham Abbey, Loughton, Harlow (two), Cheshunt (Hertfordshire) and Potters Bar (Hertfordshire), and an Incident Command Unit from Witham attended.

They fully extinguished a fire affecting about 20 cars at a recovery yard by 9.04pm.

Station Manager John Warmann said: "Crews did really well to surround the fire and stop it from spreading because there were 100 or so other cars in the yard.

"Considering the water supply was limited as well, crews did an outstanding job tonight."

Crews from Brentwood and Stansted will remain at the scene to check for hotspots.

It is believed the cause was accidental.
